What is Eyelid Surgery or blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, or blepharo cosmetic surgery, is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of the upper and lower blepharos. Upper blepharoplasty is for correcting drooping skin at the top of the blepharos. Upper blepharoplasty removes more skin and less fat from the inner corner of the eye.
Patients who may have swollen lower blepharos due to allergies are not a proper candidate for blepharoplasty.
How is blepharoplasty performed?
Upper blepharoplasty is performed through a small incision in the upper blepharo crease. This incision is well restored and will be invisible after healing. In this method, part of the skin is removed and then a small amount of muscle and fat will be lost. The skin is then closed with delicate sutures.
Lower blepharoplasty is performed differently. In this method, a small incision is made under the eyelashes. The skin and muscle are elevated and the fat is removed. A small strip of skin is then removed. Then the resulting incision is closed with delicate stitches.
